Summary

In Taisho-era Japan, Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted boy who makes a living selling charcoal。 But his peaceful life is shattered when a demon slaughters his entire family。 His little sister Nezuko is the only survivor, but she has been transformed into a demon herself! Tanjiro sets out on a dangerous journey to find a way to return his sister to normal and destroy the demon who ruined his life。

The strange shape-shifting demons Hatengu and Gyokko attack Tanjiro and his friends in the hidden village of swordsmiths。 The Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito, engages the demons, but he’ll need some help from Tanjiro and another Demon Slayer, Genya。 It’s bad enough that they have to fight two upper-rank demons, but can they handle a foe who can split itself into four separate bodies and regenerate almost instantly?

These backstories are killing me, my heart💔 You really think you’re gonna dislike a character and then boom backstory and redeeming moment and you love them instantly。 The fight panels are getting more and more exciting and the development of Tanjiro and Nezuko is immaculate。

I'm always disappointed when a villain with a new power shows up and the heroes greatest strategy, that works, is to just keep attacking。 That's it。 Just。。。 keeping hitting them! It's boring! What a waste of a potentially interesting fight。 And that's what most of this volume is spent on! Sure we get to see some new characters doing their best, getting a little bit of backstory about who they are, and some flashy new abilities, but there's nothing driving the core of this story right now。The ant I'm always disappointed when a villain with a new power shows up and the heroes greatest strategy, that works, is to just keep attacking。 That's it。 Just。。。 keeping hitting them! It is difficult to write a review of Kimetsu No Yaiba with any degree of authority - I have changed my opinion on this series many times, often in the span between two books, have absolutely loved the anime while being decidedly ambivalent about the manga and am still struggling, in a sense to understand the hype surrounding this series。 Demon Slayer is by no means a bad manga, in fact, in my limited experience of Manga, it might actually be very very good, however I find it's narrative unsatisf It is difficult to write a review of Kimetsu No Yaiba with any degree of authority - I have changed my opinion on this series many times, often in the span between two books, have absolutely loved the anime while being decidedly ambivalent about the manga and am still struggling, in a sense to understand the hype surrounding this series。 Demon Slayer is by no means a bad manga, in fact, in my limited experience of Manga, it might actually be very very good, however I find it's narrative unsatisfying and the stakes seem to diminish with each volume。 The standard plot is something like this - Tanjiro trains, unlocks a new power, meets demons who belong to the Kizuki, nearly gets killed in the process of killing them, a few of the Hashira die, and Tanjiro saves the day, either directly or indirectly by unlocking a new power within himself。 Cleanse and repeat。 I was willing to allow this pattern to continue until the Swordmaker's village arc where the entire process of defeating the demon seemed like a depressing rehash of the Entertainment district arc, combined with the odd and stilted characterisation of the Mist Hashira。 This arc leads into a sudden anticlimactic showdown with Kibutsuji himself that had me quite stunned - it really felt like Gotouge was rushing things , but, by this time I gave up the series as a lost cause and decided i wouldn't read any further。 What does act as a counterargument to my dislike of the series is the fact that I finished 10 volumes over a period of 2 days, often reading late into the night and wakin gup groggy and sleep deprived。 It leads me to believe that , like junk food, Demon Slayer is incredibly addicitve but unsatisfying。 I find my head swimming and hurting from reading more than one chapter of Hunter X hunter but the satisfaction I get from patiently following Togashi's masterwork is unmatched - Togashi is obviously the superior mangaka。 While I try not to compare the two series, being a noob to Manga, there is definitely a tendency to do so。 Reading Togashi's work alongside Gotouge has made me aware of the limits of Manga and its capacity for greatness。 I had my first glimpse of the greatness of Manga when I read Urasawa's 20th Century BOys on the recommendation of Good Ok Bad - I never finished the series because editions are hard to come by in India and expensive but it was great - Urasawa is a lot more disciplined than Togashi and actually manages to finish his series。 The difference in the battle between Chrollo and Hisoka and any of the battles in Demon slayer is this - the Nen art actually reveals a lot more about the person's character than is obvious in the beginning。 Chrollo's Nen allows strategic thinking and manipulation of stronger opponents while Hisoka's Nen is devious, to say the least, allowing for last minute reversals of fortune and devastating counterattacks。 Hunter x hunter can never translate well into an anime - it is made for manga while Demon Slayer is actually a much better anime than a manga at all times。 The fights in demon slayer do not obvious character development except for the amazing scene in the Anime with Zenitsu above Natagumo mountain, again, better in the anime and more impactful than the manga。 My final complaint with the Demon Slayer manga as a visual medium is that the art itself is incredibly difficult to follow - the fights seem blurred and indistinct and lack planning - on a panel by panel basis。 This is an incredibly creative story with excellent character work in the earlier volumes but Gotouge needs to do a lot more。 Recommended for - Anyone new to Manga, anyone in love with Supernatural Manga 。。。more

。。。Again。。。my opinion is topped。 I slept on this series and I am so impressed with the character analysis as well as the lore and historical elements that are weaved together。 This is so beautiful, but the stakes are always so high and so I never get the chance to take a breath。

Found the backstory parts interesting。 And I really want to know where Nezuko's getting the instinct about the sword。 Maybe she powers up through ancestral memories too? De nuevo comienza la acción。 Me está gustando bastante Genya, aunque a la que más ganas tengo de ver en acción es a la fangirl armada 🤩。

I’ve really tried to like this manga。。。 And I might have been a bit to generous in my ratings in the past。 But now I’m just bored out of my mind。 I’m in a clear minority, so I guess I have a terrible taste? Everything just feels sloppy and repetitive。 And unfortunately I don’t feel much for the characters。 I really liked Tengen and Kyojuro (we don’t talk about him though), but they’re out of the picture now。。。 So I guess this series wasn’t made for me。 I’ll probably keep reading, just because I I’ve really tried to like this manga。。。 And I might have been a bit to generous in my ratings in the past。 But now I’m just bored out of my mind。 I’m in a clear minority, so I guess I have a terrible taste?

the action and storytelling? *chef’s kiss* as always 😌i’m starting to warm up to genya but my feelings may have changed by the end of the arc。 i’m still a little salty about him grabbing that kid’s hair after the final selection was done。tanjiro really do be changing people’s point of view without even trying, huh? even geyna doesn’t remain unaffected。 ah, with every volume i just continue to grow even more enamored with the monumental level of kindness that spills out of tanjiro at any given ti the action and storytelling? *chef’s kiss* as always 😌i’m starting to warm up to genya but my feelings may have changed by the end of the arc。 i’m still a little salty about him grabbing that kid’s hair after the final selection was done。tanjiro really do be changing people’s point of view without even trying, huh? even geyna doesn’t remain unaffected。 ah, with every volume i just continue to grow even more enamored with the monumental level of kindness that spills out of tanjiro at any given time。and that sword color change? priceless! definitely gets 4 stars from me 😌 。。。more

An average volume。 Didn’t necessarily care a lot about the other character or the fight with the demons。 I did like the little background we got with Tanjros sword and how it changed in this battle because of Nezuko。 Overall not something I loved but hopefully the next is more interesting。
